Around the World in 80 Stitches, Part I

I finally finished Part I of this SAL! Without further ado, I present to you the beginnings of my autumn themed piece:

Part I: Beads have since been removed

I decided on bead colors, too- I'm on a roll! I'm going with Purple Passion (Mill Hill 03053) & Victorian Gold (Mill Hill 02011). I did a bead toss & these colors really add to the piece without overwhelming it.

The right side looks so bare now!

The Stitches

Partial Eyelet Stitch (Red) & Cross Stitch (Green)
Berwick Stitch (Green)
Norwich Stitch Variation (Yellow, Brown, & Metallic)
Lazy Daisy Flower (Red), Ray Stitch (Green- N/S/E/W/), & Partial Eyelet Stitch (Green)
Scotch Stitch (Brown)

Lindisfarne Stitch (Oranges)

Lazy Daisy Flower (Brown) & Ray Stitch (Green)

Berwick: the Bane of ATWI80S Part I

As I finally got my Around the World fabric cleaned, I have been working on finishing Part I. Everything is done, except half of the beading and the frustratingly awful Berwick stitch.  I cannot seem to get this stitch to look decent.

Is it supposed to look like this??

I've looked at tutorials here and here and looked at Carole's close up picture, but I can't figure it out. My knots look small and pathetic, while Carole's knots look fluffy and dignified.

Does anyone have any advice or helpful hints for this stitch? I do want to learn it properly, but I'm getting a bit frustrated as it's the only thing holding me back from moving on to Part II.
