Berwick: the Bane of ATWI80S Part I

As I finally got my Around the World fabric cleaned, I have been working on finishing Part I. Everything is done, except half of the beading and the frustratingly awful Berwick stitch.  I cannot seem to get this stitch to look decent.

Is it supposed to look like this??

I've looked at tutorials here and here and looked at Carole's close up picture, but I can't figure it out. My knots look small and pathetic, while Carole's knots look fluffy and dignified.

Does anyone have any advice or helpful hints for this stitch? I do want to learn it properly, but I'm getting a bit frustrated as it's the only thing holding me back from moving on to Part II.

Best Stitches & Wishes,

  1. Your Berwick stitch looks ok to me. I'd say you're definitely doing it correctly, but maybe you need to watch your tension a little. I think it's pulled a bit tight and that's why your knots aren't as defined.
Thank you for calling mine dignified. I rather like that ;)
